About Laura – Cape Town Dietitian

Laura is a state registered dietitian with the HPCSA (Health Professionals Council of SA). She is a member of ADSA (Association of Dietitians in SA) and ALLSA (Allergy Society of SA). Laura practises privately in Cape Town seeing individuals of all ages. She has a special interest in maternal nutrition, nutrition for young children and in helping manage allergies & intolerances.

 

Laura studied her Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of KZN and after completing her Post Graduate Diploma, moved to London to pursue a clinical dietetic career. She has over 15 years experience, most of which has been spent working in renowned London Hospitals including Hammersmith Hospital NHS Trust, Kings College NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Hospital Trust and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children.

 

Her main areas of paediatric expertise include: Allergies, Type 1 Diabetes and Feeding difficulties. In addition to this she has managed the nutrition of ADHD, eczema, FPIES, premature babies, gastroenterology conditions such as Crohn’s and Coeliac Disease, as well as epilepsy (Ketogenic Diet), autism, cerebral palsy and various syndromes including: CHARGE and Kabuki. Laura’s experience with adult nutrition includes: Diabetes, Cardiac and Gastroenterology conditions, Oncology & BMT and obesity.

 

Laura has presented and facilitated workshops in Europe, UK and South Africa on various topics, including: Diabetes, Weaning, Fussy Eating and the Ketogenic Diet. She has written for publications and blogs including ‘Your Baby’, Parenting Hub, Discovery and given radio and TV interviews for Good Hope FM and Doctor’s Orders.

 

Laura has recently joined the Woolworth’s Network of Dietitians which offers learner talks and store tours as part of the ‘Making The Difference Education Campaign’.

 

Laura is registered with Discovery to conduct Vitality Nutrition Assessments, including the Vitality Baby for during pregnancy and afterwards in baby’s first year.

 

When not working, Laura loves spending time with her family and friends and exploring the beautiful Western Cape!
